The Top 10 Holiday Decorations

Scandinavian design isn’t isolated to just furniture. Decorative accessories can take your Christmas to new heights and our writers have scoured the web for our favourite tips to give you an exciting style to experiment with this year.

1.Twinkly Lights

We all love how the houses look at Christmas with the lights twinkling in the night. From the lights along the roof, to the ever popular reindeer on the lawn, they make the streets look simply magical. When it comes to lights, make sure that all of yours are the same colour. You don’t want to mixing LED white lights with warm white lights. Similarly, if you’re opting for coloured lights, choose a colour and stick to it!

2. Wreaths

Wreaths are welcoming first impressions for any guests you may have over the holiday. If you happen to have a wreath with baubles, ribbon, etc., make sure that they follow your colour scheme and aren’t too overpowering.

3. Christmas Trees

Decorating your Christmas tree really brings the family together as most households have the entire family joining in. The tree has 4 main components: lights, tinsel, ornaments and an angel/star on top – which all must follow your colour scheme of course! Pick 2 or 3 colours (e.g. red and gold) and keep all of the decorations throughout your house those same colours, otherwise you risk looking tacky. When done right, a Christmas tree makes the perfect centrepiece along with your other Scandinavian furniture at Christmas.

4. Stockings

Stockings are traditionally hung off the fireplace as somewhere for Santa to leave presents for the good little boys and girls, besides under the tree. They often are personalised with the names of all of the family on, and really add to the cosiness of the room.

5. Mistletoe

Christmas is often seen as the most romantic holiday of the year, so why not break out the mistletoe?! The tradition of kissing under the mistletoe came from it being a sign of love and friendship in Norse mythology. Kissing aside, mistletoe is a lovely simple decoration to have in your home at Christmas, particularly over a doorway. You should tie it with a ribbon that matches your colour scheme.
