Cookies in plain terms
A cookie is a small text file a website places on your device to remember things between visits. Some help the site work properly; others tell us which pages people read and where they arrive from. They do not identify you personally and cannot access anything else on your device.
Cookies fall into two groups: those we set ourselves, and those placed by services we embed. Session cookies disappear when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay longer, typically for a few months, so the site remembers your preferences next time.
What is stored and for how long
We use a small number of cookies to keep the site functioning and to understand how people move through it. Analytics cookies track page views and visit duration, stored for up to two years. Preference cookies remember choices such as cookie consent and language settings, kept for one year. None of these files contain personal details such as your name or address.
Embedded third parties
Some pages include content or tools from other organisations – video players, maps, social-media widgets. When you load a page carrying one of these, the third party may set its own cookies under its own policy. We do not control what those services store or how long they keep it.
Check the privacy notices of any embedded service if you want to know what it collects. The scripts we rely on most often are analytics platforms and content-delivery networks that help pages load faster.
Declining without breaking the site
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you refuse all cookies, accept only first-party ones, or clear them automatically when you close the window. Be aware that turning off essential cookies may stop parts of the site working as expected – you might lose saved preferences or see layout errors.
Blocking third-party cookies will prevent analytics and embedded content from functioning, but the text and images we host directly will still load. If you want finer control, browser extensions such as uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger let you choose which domains to trust.
Updates
We review this policy from time to time and update it when we change the way cookies are used. The current version was published in January 2026. Any revisions appear on this page; we do not notify visitors individually unless the law requires it.
